Non-discriminatory admissions policy
CUT is committed to ensuring that fairness, diversity, and equity are integral to its academic and institutional policies and practices, creating a welcoming and inclusive community for all, as outlined in its Equality Plan and the Policy Statement on Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion. The University implements an admissions policy free from any form of discrimination e.g. race, colour, religion, gender, age, disability, national origin, sexuality, or socio-economic status. The University’s decisions on student undergraduate admissions are based on the ranking of candidates in the nationwide exams. Also, admission to the University, at master and PhD level, is granted on the basis of the individual merit and academic qualifications.
Moreover, the University applies positive discrimination policies in admissions for specific underrepresented and vulnerable groups as clearly stated in the relevant Rules for Undergraduate Studies, ensuring equal access to education for those facing various social, health, and economic challenges. It allocates up to 14% of the total Cypriot admissions (per program of study) to candidates belonging to “special categories” as follows:
- Up to 5% of Cypriot admissions are reserved for candidates from families facing special circumstances, including children of war invalids, those receiving public financial assistance, orphans, and candidates with parents or family members experiencing serious health or other significant issues.
- Up to 6% of Cypriot admissions are reserved for candidates with serious health issues, psychiatric or learning difficulties, or recipients of public assistance.
- Up to 3% of Cypriot admissions are reserved for candidates from specific religious minorities, individuals over 30 years old, or parents of minors.
Additionally, the University provides access to social support scholarship schemes for Master’s and PhD students, in the form of tuition fees, based on socio-economic criteria.
