Anti-discrimination policy

CUT has established a comprehensive institutional framework of anti-discrimination policies that safeguard fairness, dignity, and equal treatment across all aspects of university life and operations. These policies apply to students, academic and administrative staff, and external collaborators, reflecting CUT’s strong commitment to equality, diversity, and inclusion.

At the core of this framework lies the Equality Plan 2022-2024, which defines the University’s strategic objectives to ensure equal opportunities and non-discrimination for all members of the university community- students, academic, and administrative staff- regardless of gender, ethnicity, religion, disability, age, sexual orientation, or other personal characteristics. The Plan promotes diversity, inclusive participation, and a respectful and equitable institutional culture through targeted actions, training programmes, awareness campaigns, and continuous policy review.

The Code of Practice to Prevent and Combat Bullying, Sexual Harassment, and Harassment is aligned with the Equality Plan, ensuring the systematic integration of anti-discrimination and gender equality measures across institutional policy and practice. The Code promotes education and awareness on equal treatment, prohibits discrimination based on gender or sexual orientation, and fosters a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment for all. It defines prohibited behaviours in line with national and EU legislation, sets clear prevention, reporting, and resolution procedures, and guarantees confidentiality, fairness, and protection from retaliation.

Complementing these, the Equal Access Plan for Persons with Disabilities (PwD) and Persons with Special Educational Needs (PwSEN) provides a structured framework for reasonable accommodations, accessible infrastructure, and inclusive education and employment practices. The Plan ensures that students and staff benefit from accessible learning and working environments, equitable access to facilities and support services, and full participation in academic, administrative, and social life.

To safeguard students’ rights, the Student Ombud functions as an independent and impartial body providing confidential advice, investigating complaints, mediating with university bodies, and ensuring compliance with institutional procedures. The Ombud plays a central role in preventing discrimination, abuse of power, and unfair treatment while reinforcing accountability and transparency across the University.

Additionally, CUT promotes inclusive communication through its Inclusive Language Guide, which raises awareness of linguistic bias and encourages gender-neutral, respectful language in administrative and academic contexts, reinforcing equality and mutual respect in everyday practice. The Guide offers practical recommendations, such as using both feminine and masculine forms in general references and avoiding sexist terminology, across institutional documents and daily interactions.

Through this integrated policy framework- combining formal codes, strategic planning, and independent oversight- CUT promotes an equitable and inclusive environment grounded in fairness, dignity, and respect for all. This framework forms a key part of the University’s broader strategy to embed inclusivity and equity across all aspects of university life.
