Disability support services

CUT is firmly committed to ensuring that students with disabilities or chronic illnesses receive full and equitable access to academic life and university services. Its dedicated unit, the Center for Student Development, serves as the main point of contact for accommodation requests and personalised support. Assistance is available for a wide range of disability- related needs, including visual or hearing impairments, mobility difficulties, chronic health conditions, and psychological or learning challenges, ensuring tailored solutions based on each student’s specific circumstances.

Key support services include:

  • Provision of traffic attendants to assist mobility-impaired students across the campus environment.
  • Text enlargement and translation, and provision of a transcriber for written exams for students with visual or hearing impairments.
  • Supply of special equipment (e.g., adapted keyboards and assistive technology) and practical accommodations in lectures and examinations, such as deadline extensions, ignoring minor spelling errors, and access to dedicated quiet spaces.
  • Individual tutoring reinforcement, carried out in dedicated study rooms at the Center for Student Development and delivered by advanced-year peers or tutoring staff to support academic progress.
  • Additional personalised measures, introduced on a case-by-case basis depending on the student’s needs and the severity of the disability or medical condition.

CUT provides disability support services upon documented notification of a disability or chronic health condition and direct communication with the Center for Student Development, ensuring timely and appropriate accommodations.
In 2023-2024, support was provided to 147 students, including those with blindness or severe visual impairment, deafness or significant hearing difficulties, mobility challenges, and serious psychological or chronic health conditions.

The Diversity & Inclusion Office complements these services by promoting accessibility across physical infrastructure, digital platforms, and university services, while identifying and removing barriers to ensure equal opportunities for students with disabilities. It also plays a central role in reviewing institutional policies and supporting inclusive practices across the University. More info can be found here.
