Water reuse measurement

At CUT, the total volume of water used on campus results in an equivalent volume of liquid wastewater, which the University pays to discharge into the central sewage systems of the cities of Limassol and Paphos, as documented on the Environmental Policy Office webpage. This wastewater is treated at the respective central wastewater treatment plants in full compliance with all environmental protection and public health requirements, based on Directive (EU) 2024/3019.

Following treatment, the resulting effluent is primarily reused for irrigation purposes, including agriculture and horticulture, in line with national wastewater reuse practices. Based on these processes, an estimated 8000 m³ of treated wastewater (accounting for less than 5% losses from network leaks and evaporation) was available for reuse by the municipalities and farmers of the Limassol and Paphos districts in 2024.
