Assistance to low-carbon innovation
CUT actively supports low-carbon innovation and entrepreneurship through targeted programmes and activities within the European University of Technology (EUt+) alliance, promoting the development of technologies and start-ups that contribute to a sustainable and low-carbon economy.
CUT initially coordinated the Inno-EUt+ project, funded under the EIT Climate-KIC, which aimed to foster entrepreneurship and innovation in the cleantech sector. Through this initiative, several start-ups were supported in developing environmentally responsible business models, and the project’s key results were later integrated into the EUt+ alliance innovation strategy.
EUt+ Incubation Programme
Building on this foundation, in 2024 CUT, in its role as EUt+ coordinator for innovation and entrepreneurship, launched the EUt+ Incubation Programme initiative, initiating awareness campaigns, information sessions, and calls for participation among students and researchers across partner universities. The Programme aimed to attract teams and individual entrepreneurs with innovative ideas or prototypes at various stages of development, from early concepts to emerging start-ups, providing mentoring and training opportunities.
As part of this initiative, CUT organised a series of specialised masterclasses and pitching sessions in front of industry and academic experts, aiming to secure support and investment opportunities from the EUt+ network while fostering cross-border collaboration.
Particular emphasis was placed on low-carbon innovation, with four teams specifically developing technologies and business models that reduce carbon emissions or improve energy efficiency. These initiatives demonstrate CUT’s direct assistance to start-ups contributing to the transition toward a low-carbon economy.

In parallel, CUT coordinates a series of EUt+ Innovation Talks, bringing together start-ups, academics, and researchers to share best practices, showcase innovative ideas, and explore partnerships across the Alliance. As part of this initiative, CUT hosted the talk “Entrepreneurship in Sustainable Energy”, presented by Dr. Alexandros Charalambides, focusing on clean energy entrepreneurship and innovation in the energy transition sector.

Through these initiatives, CUT demonstrates its commitment to supporting start-ups that develop low-carbon technologies, advancing the principles of sustainable innovation, clean energy, and climate resilience in line with the UN SDG 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy).
