Employment policy modern slavery
CUT has adopted and formally approved a comprehensive Employment Policy Against Modern Slavery, demonstrating the University’s institutional commitment to ethical governance, human rights, and social responsibility. The Policy explicitly prohibits forced labour, modern slavery, human trafficking, and child labour across all University activities and collaborations, reflecting CUT’s zero-tolerance approach toward any form of human exploitation.
CUT recognises that modern slavery is a serious crime and a violation of fundamental human rights. The University applies a zero-tolerance policy to any form of forced or compulsory labour, human trafficking, or child exploitation, and is committed to acting ethically and with integrity in all its relationships and operations.
The officially approved Employment Policy Against Modern Slavery applies to all individuals and entities working for or on behalf of the University, including:
- academic and administrative staff (permanent, temporary, part-time, or contract),
- research associates, students, and teaching assistants,
- contractors, suppliers, consultants, and other external partners.
Key provisions of the Policy include:
- Zero tolerance: CUT prohibits all forms of modern slavery, forced labour, human trafficking, and child labour within its institutional operations and external partnerships.
- Ethical recruitment and employment: All recruitment and employment processes comply fully with national labour legislation, ensuring fair, voluntary, and dignified employment.
- Fair working conditions: CUT ensures respect for freedom of association, collective bargaining, and safe working environments for all staff.
- Reporting mechanism: All employees are required and encouraged to report any suspected or actual incidents of modern slavery through formal channels- to their direct supervisor, the HR Department, the Director of Administration and Finance, or the Rector.
- Accountability and enforcement: The University reserves the right to terminate any employment, contract, or partnership if a violation of this Policy is identified.
CUT maintains a clear and enforceable policy commitment against forced labour, modern slavery, human trafficking, and child labour. Through this Policy, CUT safeguards ethical employment practices, ensures respect for human dignity, and strengthens its commitment to fostering a fair, inclusive, and socially responsible working environment.
