The CUT Policy for 17 Sustainable Development Goals

As a modern University, the Cyprus University of Technology actively participates in the creation of global collective consciousness and takes action to transform the world. It puts at the center of its action the care, not only of the current generation, but also of the future ones, activates the public debate inside and outside the community and undertakes horizontal initiatives to improve the quality of life.

The goal of the Cyprus University of Technology, as a pioneer university of sustainable development, is through its daily operation to produce work that is related to and responds to global challenges.

The objective is implemented in the following ways:

  1. Commitment to achieve the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations as stated on their website and in Annex 1.
  2. Appointment of Rector’s Advisor, Academic, for Sustainability issues.
  3. Creation of a committee for the 17 SDGs with members from Academics, Administrators and Students.
  4. The Rector’s Sustainability advisor will be the coordinator of the committee for the 17 SDGs.
  5. Administrative support of the 17 SDG Committee from the f Environmental Policy Office (green@cut).
  6. Collecting the University’s actions under the umbrella of the 17 SDGs.
  7. Creation of a Strategic Plan for Sustainable Development and its implementation.
  8. Promotion of research and open dialogue on sustainable development.
  9. Holistic approach to communication, promotion, and internationalization of the 17 SDGs.
  10. Raising awareness, information, and training actions within and outside the University community.

This updated Policy was approved during the 226th session of the Senate.

Annex

The 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations:

  1. No Poverty: End poverty in all its forms everywhere.
  2. No Hunger: End hunger, achieve food security and improved nutrition and promote sustainable agriculture.
  3. Good Health and Wellbeing: Ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages.
  4. Quality Education: Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all.
  5. Gender Equality: Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls.
  6. Clean Water and Sanitation: Ensure availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all.
  7. Affordable and Clean Energy: Ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all.
  8. Descent Work and Economic Growth: Promote sustained, inclusive and sustainable economic growth, full and productive employment and decent work for all.
  9. Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure: Build resilient infrastructure, promote inclusive and sustainable industrialization and foster innovation.
  10. Reduced Inequalities: Reduce inequality within and among countries.
  11. Sustainable Cities and Communities: Make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable.
  12. Responsible Consumption and Production: Ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns.
  13. Climate Action: Take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts.
  14. Life Below Water: Conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine resources for sustainable development.
  15. Life on Land: Protect, restore and promote sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems, sustainably manage forests, combat desertification, and halt and reverse land degradation and halt biodiversity loss.
  16. Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions: Promote peaceful and inclusive societies for sustainable development, provide access to justice for all and build effective, accountable and inclusive institutions at all levels.
  17. Partnership for the Goals: Strengthen the means of implementation and revitalize the Global Partnership for Sustainable Development.
