CUT actively promotes the mental health and well-being of both students and staff through a
combination of structured services and awareness-raising activities. The Center of Student Development provides free mental health counselling, personal development workshops, and referrals to public or private professionals for psychotherapy or psychiatric evaluation. Key topics addressed include stress management, time management, healthy relationships, and emotional resilience.
In 2023-2024, several internally focused initiatives were launched targeting the entire university
community. These included:
- “Speed Dating with an Expert”- a drop-in event allowing students and staff to speak informally with mental health professionals and postgraduate students from the MSc in Advanced Nursing & Mental Health Care, aiming to destigmatize mental illness and promote open dialogue.
- Art Therapy Workshop- an experiential seminar offering students and staff the opportunity to express difficult emotions through painting.
- Film Screening & Discussion- public screening of “A Sofa in Tunisia” on World Mental Health Day, followed by open discussion on stigma in mental health.
- Mental Resilience Workshop, offered through the Human Resources Services in collaboration with internal and external partners.
- Workshops hosted by LDN on topics such as learning difficulties, psychological empowerment, positive psychology, and cyberbullying.
Additionally, CUT introduced Experts by Experience into its undergraduate Mental Health Nursing curriculum (NUR 354 & NUR 454), enabling students to engage directly with individuals with lived mental health experiences- fostering empathy and practical understanding.
These targeted efforts reflect CUT’s institutional commitment to a supportive and inclusive environment that empowers its community to prioritise mental well-being.
