Access schemes for students and staff with disabilities

CUT provides a comprehensive and structured framework of access schemes for people with disabilities, for students and staff with disabilities, ensuring equal opportunities and enabling full participation in academic and social life. These schemes are embedded within the University’s Equality and Accessibility Plan 2025-2028, which establishes an institution-wide approach to accessibility, inclusion, and support under the pillar “Access and Support for Persons with Disabilities and Special Educational Needs”.

The Plan defines a strategic framework based on four core goals:

  • Fostering an inclusive and open organisational culture that values diversity
  • Ensuring accessible, flexible, and inclusive education with equal support for participation
  • Guaranteeing safe and accessible physical and digital infrastructures
  • Attracting, supporting, and retaining staff with disabilities

Implementation is delivered through coordinated institutional access schemes led by two main institutional units:

  • The Center of Student Development provides structured and individualised support to students with disabilities or chronic conditions. This includes mentoring through scheduled one-to-one guidance sessions, counselling and psychotherapeutic services, and targeted academic support such as individual tutoring in dedicated study spaces, regular support sessions delivered by specialised staff or trained peers, and close coordination with academic staff to ensure timely and effective implementation of accommodations.
  • The Diversity and Inclusion Office complements these services by promoting accessibility and inclusive participation across the University. It leads awareness-raising and accessibility-enhancing initiatives and supports peer mentoring schemes, including opportunities where senior students with disabilities provide experience-based guidance, fostering confidence, belonging, and self-advocacy.

Through this integrated system of mentoring, peer support, and targeted access schemes, CUT actively empowers students with disabilities to engage fully in university life, ensuring equal access, inclusion, and academic success, through structured and continuously monitored support mechanisms.
