CUT maintains a comprehensive and institutionalised reasonable accommodation policy and strategy for people with disabilities, for students and staff with disabilities, ensuring equal opportunities, inclusive participation, and adequate support across all areas of university life and across all university functions. This framework is embedded within the University’s Equality and Accessibility Plan 2025-2028, which builds on the Equal Access Plan for Persons with Disabilities (PwD) and Persons with Special Educational Needs (PwSEN), providing a strategic approach to accessibility, reasonable adjustments, and inclusive infrastructure, supported by dedicated institutional resources and funding mechanisms.
CUT ensures accessible and inclusive infrastructure across its campuses in Limassol and Paphos, including ramps and elevators with braille signage, accessible classrooms, lecture theatres, offices and restrooms, dedicated parking spaces, and adapted on-campus accommodation designed to support equitable access for all users. These measures enable safe, independent, and barrier-free participation in academic and social life.
As part of its commitment to equitable access and adequate financial support, CUT provides subsidised adapted on-campus housing for students with disabilities, covering approximately 50% of accommodation costs. This reduces financial barriers and ensures access to safe, inclusive, and dignified living conditions. The allocation of housing support is based on transparent socioeconomic criteria defined in official institutional regulations.
Reasonable accommodations are further implemented through the Center of Student Development, which ensures that disability-related support is adequately funded, structured, and consistently delivered throughout each student’s academic journey. Services include:
- Provision of assistive equipment and technologies
- Examination and lecture accommodations (e.g. text enlargement, translation, transcription, deadline extensions)
- Individual tutoring and academic reinforcement support
- Mobility assistance through trained attendants
- Coordination with academic staff to ensure timely and effective implementation of accommodations
These services are delivered through formal institutional procedures, ensuring continuity, equity, and effectiveness of support.
In parallel, the Diversity and Inclusion Office plays a key role in monitoring, reviewing, and strengthening disability-inclusive policies and funding mechanisms, ensuring continuous improvement of accessibility and reasonable accommodation practices across the University.
Through this integrated policy framework- combining inclusive infrastructure, personalised support services, and targeted financial measures- CUT demonstrates a strong and sustained commitment to reasonable accommodation, accessibility, and equal participation for people with disabilities.
