Environmental and climate policy

CUT has adopted a comprehensive and recently updated Environmental and Climate Policy, demonstrating its strong institutional commitment to sustainability and climate action. The Policy, approved by the University Senate in April 2026, integrates environmental responsibility and climate action across all university operations, governance, and strategic planning, and is applied across all university functions and operations.

The Policy establishes a holistic framework for sustainable development, embedding environmental and climate considerations into teaching, research, campus operations, and community engagement. It ensures compliance with environmental legislation while promoting continuous improvement through monitoring, evaluation, and integration of sustainability indicators into institutional processes.

CUT’s updated Policy places a strong emphasis on climate change mitigation and adaptation, including:

  • Measurement and annual reporting of greenhouse gas emissions (Scope 1 and Scope 2, with progressive inclusion of Scope 3 where applicable).
  • Establishment of measurable targets for emissions reduction aligned with European and international climate goals.
  • Implementation of energy efficiency measures, renewable energy use, and resource conservation across facilities.
  • Integration of circular economy principles and green public procurement practices.
  • Promotion of research and innovation addressing environmental protection and climate challenges.

The Policy also supports awareness-raising, education, and stakeholder engagement, fostering a culture of sustainability within the university community. It further promotes partnerships and collaboration with external organisations to advance sustainability and climate objectives, supporting the transition towards low-carbon and climate-neutral operations.

Through this updated Environmental and Climate Policy, CUT demonstrates a structured, measurable, and forward-looking approach to sustainability and climate action, aligning institutional practices with global sustainability priorities. The Policy is operationalised through dedicated governance structures, monitoring processes, and institutional sustainability practices.
