Equality, diversity and inclusion policies

CUT maintains a comprehensive and current Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) policy framework, anchored in its Equality and Accessibility Plan (EAP) 2025-2028 as its primary policy instrument. The Plan is publicly available, ensuring transparency and institutional accountability, and is aligned with national legislation and European Union frameworks on equality and non-discrimination, across teaching, research, administration, and campus life.

The EAP 2025-2028 sets out the University’s strategic objectives, actions, and monitoring mechanisms to promote equal opportunities and inclusive participation across all university activities. It adopts a zero-tolerance approach to discrimination, harassment, sexual harassment, and gender-based violence, and applies to all members of the university community- students, academic and administrative staff, as well as external collaborators- regardless of gender, ethnicity, religion, disability, age, sexual orientation, or other personal characteristics.

The implementation of the Plan is supported by targeted actions, training programmes and capacity-building activities for staff and students, awareness-raising initiatives, and continuous monitoring and evaluation mechanisms, including periodic review and updating of the policy framework, ensuring effective, measurable, and evidence-based impact across the institution.

The EAP is complemented by a coherent set of institutional policies and mechanisms that operationalise EDI principles:

  • The Code of Practice for Preventing and Combating Bullying, Harassment, and Sexual Harassment serves as the University’s core anti-harassment policy, defining prohibited behaviours and establishing clear procedures for prevention, reporting, investigation, and resolution, in line with national and EU legislation. It ensures confidentiality, protection from retaliation, and appropriate support for affected individuals.
  • The Inclusive Language Guide promotes respectful, bias-free communication across academic and administrative contexts, reinforcing non-discrimination and equality in everyday institutional practices.
  • The Student Ombud provides independent, confidential, and impartial support to students, addressing cases of discrimination, harassment, or unfair treatment, and strengthening transparency and accountability.

This integrated policy framework is implemented and monitored through the University’s Equality Committee and the Diversity and Inclusion Office, ensuring alignment between strategy, policy, and practice, as well as continuous review and improvement in line with international best practices.

Through this comprehensive and actively implemented EDI policy framework, CUT demonstrates a strong institutional commitment to equality, diversity, inclusion, and human rights across all areas of university life.
