CUT’s Environmental Policy

With its orientation to applied research, the Cyprus University of Technology aspires to become an important leader of the state and our society in dealing with problems that concern it in all the fields of science, technology and knowledge that serve it.

An integral part of the above mission is the Sustainable Development of the Cyprus University of Technology by integrating Sustainable Development processes in each of its activities.

The aim is to apply the principles of Sustainability in all the activities of the University and to integrate them into the general culture of the University.

The Cyprus University of Technology is committed to implementing an Environmental Policy in the following ways:

  • Compliance with relevant legislation and where possible active contribution to the revision/improvement of and/or drafting of new relevant legislation.
  • Sustainable Development Processes in all its activities
  • Continuous monitoring, evaluation, and improvement of its Sustainable Performance
  • Integration of Sustainable indicators into the University’s processes and strategic development goals
  • Continuous education and cultivation of the University Community for Sustainable Development
  • Development or restoration of buildings with the aim of optimal energy efficiency and minimal use of natural resources
  • Saving energy and water in its buildings and facilities
  • Use, wherever possible, of Renewable Energy Sources in its facilities
  • Commitment to the implementation of Green Public Procurement
  • Reducing the daily use of paper and sourcing paper products from recycled paper
  • Reuse, Reduce as much as possible and recycle
  • Collection, transport and management of hazardous waste in accordance with internationally accepted environmental standards
  • Promotion of e-government
  • Promotion of research for the development of innovative technologies/practices related to the protection of the Natural Environment and Sustainable Development
  • Promotion of Open Dialogue and public information on issues related to the protection of the Natural Environment and Sustainable Development
  • Promotion of climate change response and adaptation measures
  • Networking with other organizations and Universities for the purpose of all the above.

The updated Policy was approved during the 226th session of the Senate at 2/4/2024.
